With the source documentation we have is a series of carbon copies of the ‘loading lists’ for most of the missions. They are not of the best quality, but the one for the December 20th 1942 mission is readable and shows who was aboard each aircraft, what position they flew in and, for some strange reason, their salary! This document, from the Squadron Operations Officer to the Group Operations Officer, refers to the 324th BS as ‘Red Squadron’, and shows that Jim Verinis was the co-pilot that day. |
